Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa. At the beginning of her life she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. The article she wrote about her experience revealed published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. Once I was bigger than any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. For Bruce, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. The teacher encouraged her to audition for a part in a school production. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on small and big screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel played the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filming over 10 years ago.
